Word Searches and Spelling Words

One way to get your students to:

• read their spelling words
• type their spelling words or copy and paste them
• and search for their spelling words

is to create a word search puzzle to play on the computer or to print out on paper.

So, if your objective is to get your students to practice their spelling words, try using Funbrain's Word Turtle - a word search tool!

Step #2 - Have the students choose a Level - younger kids (K - 1) should do the Easy level

Step #3 - Have the students choose a Style - I prefer to have the kids print the word search on paper because they can take it home with them or practice on the playground, cafeteria, gym, grocery store, in the car.... (you get the idea)

Teaching Ideas:

1. You could recite the words for the kids as they type the words - similar to a spelling test
2. Print out the words for the kids and give them the printouts to ensure accurate spelling
3. Have the kids input the words from their spelling tests
4. Type the words on your classroom web site and then have your students use QuickNote to hold the words for easy typing or copying and pasting
