Using a nom de plume, please comment on this instructional strategy:
Students who are able to participate anonymously add value to your class that would otherwise be missing with the traditional hand rising strategies that some teachers currently employ.
If you have a blog (or use a message board) and you enable students to share their knowledge without others knowing (who they are), you will have greater class participation.
What do you think? What are your fears?
I think that this statement is absolutely correct. Students are afraid to answer in class, because they might get embarrassed that they have the wrong answer. If they are able to answer or ask questions anonymously they are more likely to. The fear with this is there will be no more in person contact.
ReplyDeleteI agree even in college classes more is said if you are given the option to say it anonymously
ReplyDeleteStudents should always be able to ask questions for further understanding and if that means doing it anonymously then that is fine. You never wrong by asking questions. And trying to answer the best way you know how to. Anonymous names helps students feel secure.
ReplyDeleteI think that this statement is very accurate. Students often will not speak up because they are afraid of being wrong or what others will think about them. The anonymous comments can help to make improvements without singling people out.
ReplyDeleteI very much agree with this statement. I think some students are embarrassed to ask questions in class in case they are wrong, so this way students no longer have to feel embarrassed and ask what they like. This is just going to help students have a positive learning experience.
